Albany Luxury Retreat and why we call the chalet Jaq's Shack.

If you have looked at our rates you will see that we offer a special price to people journeying with cancer. Both of us - Hamish and Jenny, lost partners to different forms of cancer.

Chalet

Hamish and his late wife Jacqui bought this property in 1999, sight unseen, while living and working in Kununurra; with the hope of one day moving here and possibly building a chalet. Jacqui was diagnosed with breast cancer 2 years later and the move to Bornholm never happened, although plans to build the chalet were drawn up. The hexagon building is based on a meditation room at the Gawler Foundation in the Dandenongs, Victoria where Jacqui and Hamish spent some time.

Jenny and late husband Gavin, moved to Albany in 1991 to set up a business. Their lovely daughter Molly was born here. Gavin was diagnosed with melanoma in 2001 and in 2004 they moved to back to Perth.

Hamish and Jenny met in 2006 and after Hamish finally convinced Jen and Molly that going back south was a good thing, the property at Bornholm finally began its current transformation.

Jaq's Shack came about as a way to both honor the memory of lost loved ones, and provide somewhere nurturing for both cancer patients and their support crew to have some valuable time out. The ground floor is wheel chair friendly.

From our journeys with cancer, having somewhere to retreat to, somewhere beautiful, relaxing and peaceful would have been helpful for our state of mind.

We hope you find Albany Luxury Retreat just that - a beautiful, relaxing, peaceful and healing place to be.
